Post R&B, Hip-Hop, Meets House...Electro-Hop?
on: May 31, 2011, 22:15

A new trend has spawned in the past couple years, of house/techno DJs being more affiliated with Hip-Hop, R&B, and even variations of soul. Kanye West and Usher in my opinion were the first two to do it, but Kanye really put it into vogue on his album, "808's and Heartbreaks". Musicians are starting to see the likes of producers such as David Guetta, Tiesto, and Benny Benassi in R&B studios, just as much as Pharrell or Yeezy. This video of the Chris Brown song, "Beautiful People", shows just what I am talking about. Is this type of Electro-Hop here to stay?

Besides the great tune and the wide array of musical superstars that make appearances, everyone in the video seems to be rocking a different look. Props to the creative outfits, steezy threads, and catchy beats, it's been out for a couple months, but it's worth a watch.

beautiful people is such a sick track. when I first heard the beat I knew the track was gonna pop off... Chris brown also has a freakin heavenly voice, maybe the most epic dance track voice I've ever heard laid down by a dude. when it reaches the climax of the song and everything drops in I can so easily picture this shit bumping and an entire stadium of ragers going absolutely nuts

^Couldn't have said it better. That song/video "Forever" that he did 2 or 3 years ago was amazing. I've always been a fan and I think he is incredibly talented. The guy can hit just about every note and has amazing range with what he is able produce. Despite the whole Rhianna fiasco, I think that Chris Brown is still an amazing talent. I don't condone or agree with anything that happened between the two, but from a talent standpoint, Chris Brown can really get people jazzed about dancing and cutting a rug up. In my opinion he is just as talented as Justin Timberlake, but still doesn't have the same cross-over that JT has. What do you think about this style of music that he, Usher, Kanye, and even Trey Songz are pioneering as new soul/dance?

I gotta say that as a whole I like what they're doing, even if I don't always like the music. This song is a great example of an amazing track that crosses two or more genres. Other songs that try to do this... maybe not so much? CB is definitely incredibly talented but I think his crossover appeal isn't the same as Justin's simply because they came to fame in such different ways. JT was a part of the Backstreet Boys man cmonnnn you can't top that haha. Chris Brown has always just been Chris Brown, u kno?

This new dancey hiphopy type of music is a great thing though. I love seeing a genre of music evolve because it's *another* avenue for great music to be made.

I don't know if any of you caught the "Today Show" on MSNBC this morning, but the show might have seen its biggest live performance in the past couple years, if not ever. Chris Brown announced a while back that he would be appearing live and people have been lining up for the past 4 days just to catch a snippet of his 15 minute performance. With the size of the crowd that he pulled in, some people if they didn't know any better, might have thought the queen of England was in the studio with Matt Lauer and Ann Curry. Never the less, it was indeed Chris Breezy, with his pink bow tie to join him. People have said that the line was almost more intense than getting into the new Harry Potter premiere. All pretty impressive for a guy whose name was so controversial just a couple years ago for allegedly pulling an Ike Turner on his then girlfriend and fellow pop star Rhianna. It appears that Chris Brown is back and his approval ratings seem better than ever, at least around Rockefeller Plaza that is. It is estimated that he drew in more than 18,000 fans for his performance. The only other artist that may have pulled in a bigger crowd was Lady Gaga last year, who supposedly drew more than 20,000.

Take a look at the show he puts on below in its entirety. Not that his is a thread dedicated to Chris Brown, but he is incredibly talented and might very well be the most skilled pop dancer in the business....
