Looking back, Yannick de Jager – now 23 – was predestined to become the best surfer in the Low Countries. He grew up in Scheveningen and his father was one of the first surfers in the Netherlands.
He still had to work his way to the top though, like everyone else. He hit his first waves at the age of 7 in Portugal and from age 10 on he was hooked on surfing. He spent as much time as possible on the North Sea's waves and went on numerous surfing trips to places with consistent, high quality surf with his father. This gave him a solid base to start competing on.
At the age of 14 he took his first junior title and soon after, still a junior, started competing in the open men's division and became the open men's national champion in 2005 and still holds the title today. For the past two years, open minded and energetic Yannick has competed at an international
level in the WQS, shot photos, videos and
traveled the world as a professional surfer.
